The 9th Cinemanila International Film Festival, running from August 8-19, 2007 at Gateway Mall Cineplex 10 in Araneta Center, Quezon City, and from August 17-19, 2007 in Boracay Island, is proud to feature 100 films from 40 countries.

The long list of the films include Yoji Yamada’s Love and Honor; Marjane Satrapi & Vincent Paronnaud’s Persepolis; Postmodern Life of my Aunt, a 2006 Hong Kong film by Ann Hui; Indian film entitled The Namesake, directed by Mira Nair; 2 Days in Paris, directed by and starring Julie Delpy; La Vie En Rose, starring Marion Cotillard, adapted from Edith Piaf’s popular french song; Paris Je T’aime.

Among the international titles will be several past winners in the Berlin and Cannes film festival such as Pedro Almovodar’s Volver; the Palm D’Or winner at Cannes, 4 Months, 3 Weeks & 2 Days; The Edge of Heaven, nominated for the Palm D’OR and the winner of Best Screenplay; and U-Carmen eKhayelitsha, the South African film winner of the Golfer Berlin Bear in 2005.

Quentin Tarantino, the jury head of the 2004 Cannes Film Festival, will be having special appearances during the entire run of the Cinemanila to hold a series of seminar-workshops on indie filmmaking, directing, scriptwriting, film archiving for the benefit of aspiring filmmakers and enthusiasts.

In the goal of bringing back the heart of Southeast Asian Cinema in the Philippines, a number of Filipino films will be lined up as part of its non-competition films exhibition.

35mm Filipino films are Batang West Side directed by Laz Diaz, 2002, Best Asian Feature Film of 2002 Singapore International Film Festival); Bayanihang Third World (Mike De Leon, 2000, 2001 Young Critics Circle Awards’ Best Film); and Magnifico, (Maryo J. De los Reyes, 2003, Best Feature Film at the 2004 Berlin International Film Festival).

The hub of digital films collects Ang Daan Patunong Kalimugtong (Mes De Guzman, 2005, Best New Director Award at the 2006 San Sebastian International Film Festival); Kubrador (Jeffrey Jeturian, 2006, Winner of the FIPRESCI prize at the 2006 Moscow International Film Festival, which stars Ms. Gina Pareño who won various awards from various award-winning bodies); anf the highly critically acclaimed Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros (Aureus Solito, 2005, Best Feature Film at the 2006 Berlin International Film Festival).

The Independent Cinema Association of the Philippines (ICAP), the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), and a specially commissioned inter-agency committee, make this event possible in coordination with the CIFF.
